Anitha Guha

Smt. Anitha Guha, one of the most popular Bharathanatyam non performing teachers of Chennai, had her initial exposure to this art form from her mother, Smt.Karthiyayini Natesan, and later underwent training under Guru. Sri. Govindarajan Pillai. She also had the fortune of being under the guidance of Kalaimamani. Sri. Radha Krishnan and Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayanth, for a very brief period. She learns carnatic music from Smt. B. Meenakshi who specializes in Oothukadu compositions.

From a very tender age, apart from solo performances, with god’s gift of grace, elegance, natural talent for choreography and love for dance dramas she staged a variety of ‘NrityaNatakams’ with her dance group in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. She played title roles like Radha, Valli, Mohini, Basmasura, Shiva, Urvasi with such finesse that the audiences marveled at her portrayal. Her adept portrayal of Urvasi won her the Minister’s Award in 1985.

Anitha founded Bharathanjali in the year 1989. Since then, she has been imparting to her students with love and dedication whatever has been bestowed upon her by the almighty. She is blessed with a wonderful talent of teaching Bharathanatyam to youngsters, and has the uncanny ability to bring out the best in each and every student. She has pioneered in moulding children of very early age to professional standards. Many of her students have blossomed into solo performers and teachers who have been performing in India and abroad, winning awards, titles and scholarships.

Appreciated by the critics and the rasikas as the foremost ballet producer of her generation, she has carved a niche for herself with several, much lauded Mythological NrityaNatakams and Thematic dance productions which have been performed in many prestigious sabhas all over India. A cast of young students with fine dancing technique, a dramatic atmosphere and remarkable choreography have made her productions unique and inspiring to one and all. She has around 25 Nrithya Natakams to her credit.

In 2011, she had the prestigiousopportunity of working with the great musicians, choreographing and presenting the 'kishkindha kandam' and 'sundara kandam' in the ramayana series along with many senior gurus for the Cleveland Aradhana festival. She presented the ‘vana virata vijayam’ from the Mahabharatha for the same festival in 2014.

The school celebrated its silver jubilee as a three day festival in 2015 with cultural programmes and honoured many veterans in the art field.
In 2018 she had the opportunity to present Nandalala across 14 cities in the US FOR AIM FOR SEVA for their fund raising.
